Malaysia struggling to reach the semi-finals

There were no surprises on the first day of the team event at SEA Games 31st, which took place at Dam Vac golf course, with the exception of the Vietnam men's team was eliminated by the Singapore’s team.

After spending 3 days competing in the individual content, the seed ranking portraited an accurate picture of the level and ability of the teams. In the quarterfinals in the team’s event, the teams that were seeded higher were all the winners, with the only exception being between Vietnam and Singapore. These 2 teams are ranked 4th and 5th on the seed ranking, and this is considered the most balanced match.

Although Vietnam is considered slightly better, Le Khanh Hung was not in the best form today and lost to Brandon Han Zhen Guang with the result 3&2. Meanwhile, Nguyen Dang Minh let Ryan Ang John surpass and lose 1 Down in the last hole. Nguyen Anh Minh's 2&1 victory over Hiroshi Tai Hirahara was unable to help the Vietnamese team reach the next round.

Thailand and Indonesia are the two teams with overwhelming victories over Cambodia and the Philippines, especially Thailand when they have 2 wins with the same result 5 & 4 and 1 win 8 & 7 of Pongsapak Laopakdee against Pichmeta Peou. The Thailand golfer - Laopakdee gameplay was extremly sublime on this day, especially when he holed out with a 3-wood stick to score an eagle on hole 9.

Meanwhile, No. 2 seed team - Malaysia had a very difficult victory against Myanmar. The two teams won 1.5 points and the match had to rely on a playoff series between the men individual Gold Medalists - Ervin Chang and Hlaing Min Htet to determine the winner.

Ervin Chang made the Malaysian fans' hearts sank when he hit the ball into the water right at his tee on the 18th par 5 hole. However, the turning point of the match came from Hlaing Min Htet's third shot flying straight into the wood in front of the green, and then he received another penalty stroke for dropping the ball improperly (dropping the ball below knee height). At this point, the advantage suddenly shifted back to the Malaysian golfer and Ervin Chang did not hesitate to win with bogeys after 2 putts.

Therefore, in the men's semi-finals, Thailand will go against Indonesia, while Singapore will face off with Malaysia.

For the women’s league, Malaysia showed off their class when they easily defeated Doan Xuan Khue Minh and Le Thi Thanh Thuy of Vietnam, with 2 matches with 5&3, 4&3 results.

The same scenario also played out in the match between Singapore and Myanmar. Silver medals in women's individual - Aloysa Mabutas Margiela Atienza and Hailey Loh Suanne of Singapore had 2 convincing victories against 2 Myanmar players with results 4 & 2 and 1 Up.

The most exciting match of the women’s team event came from the 4th seed of Philippines and the 5th seed of Indonesia. These two matches took place with a similar scenario, and surprisingly Indonesia was the team that with most of the advantages. However, both Lois Kaye Go Lo and Rianne Mikhaela Malixi Aala stepped up at the right time and successfully came back up in the last holes to bring victory to the Philippines.

In the end, the Thailan’s team will meet Malaysia, and the Philippines will go against Singapore in the women's semi-final.
